If you're not Catholic, you may not understand some of it, but you may still better understand what happened to Catholics in France during the revolution. You will find out something about history that very few people would have known before they watched the film. It is very worth watching and worth thinking about. There are some corny parts and low budget effects, but that really seemed appropriate. The world also needs to see the future adult in its children, and give them the kind of dignity given them in this film. The modern world needs to know what happens when the state tries to deny religious liberty - no spoiler here, it's history. They chose an important and timely topic and cast children to tell the story. I think the director and the young actors did a very good job given their age and likely their budget. Their next film, The War of the Vendee, released in 2012 ups the production quality and is accompanied with a musical score by Hollywood composer Kevin Kasker. Bernadette of Lourdes was released in 2009 and even attracted the attention of EWTN (Eternal Word Television Network) who broadcast the film on May 13, 2011. We came across them only recently and watching their films, in which all the main actors are children (Catholic homeschoolers), we were inspired to try and make some good Catholic movies ourselves.
